We've been having a problem with internet explorer 7 not keeping track of web sites visited in the "history" listing.

A ms mvp at the microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general newsgroup is saying to uninstall superantispyware as a solution to the problem

Any other way to fix this? (I haven't uninstalled it yet).

    Thanks.

I have moved your thread to software.

If SAS is a paid for version, then I would just disable it from start up and see if that works. But I have never come across that issue. I would be more inclined to look at your setting in IE.

    Hi

Could be as TimW says a setting in IE, check to see in IE and Tools > Internet Options and under Browsing History click Settings and what is History Set to.

Also what other PC cleaning applications have you installed as apps like CCleaner will clean your History out.

    Thanks.

Seems like that is the problem. The person at the microsoft newsgroup said to press win-r and type "shell:history". This brought up the history and said it was located in %user profile%\localsettings\history. It showed the history by date.

However, looking under tools>internet options>browsing history - settings, etc., strangely showed that the "temporary internet files" were not under the "history" folder.

I have now moved it to the history folder.

I'm starting to wonder if we have some malware doing this. There are other things that have been happening such as the windows don't appear after clicking on them on the (minimized) task bar - or, it appears but quickly goes back to the original window. And we recently got an email from a mailing list at an email address that we didn't use for that list.

    Hi

May have confused you a bit with History set to, more meaning what is the figure in the history box set to? 1,2,3,10,20 etc?

History folder location is generally different to the Temp Internet Folders setting, so would personally set it back.

What security software do you have installed, please name all of them as one could likely have a privacy option thats set to delete your browsing history on shutdown.

What PC cleaning applications do you have and do you run each day? (eg. CCleaner)

Could be malware, now you mention other issues, so run the READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide and if anything is flagged up in the scans Start a new thread in Malware forum and attach all the logs you will have gained in the Read Me,

The history is set to 300M and 30 days.

We have Online Armor, Avira Antivir, and SuperAntiSpyware. We also have the others mentioned in the "Malware Removal Guide" as I went thru that several months ago. But I haven't used those others since then.

I am thinking more definitely that we have some kind of malware since tonight the computer was hijacked to a commercial webpage when I was trying to log in to yahoo.

    Hi

In that case then definatly follow the Read Me and start a thread in the Malware Forum for the guys and girls in there to review your logs, if its not malware related then post back in this thread and we can have another crack at the cause.
