I have many thousands of files in my support.com folder, not to mention in the total C: drive. here is a pic from a scanner i used:

I can't possibly need all of these files could I?

on another note, I am having low disc space issues. My main problems started when my McAfee subscription expired. it's like the sub expired and all heck broke loose on my computer. I've since installed AVG Free and removed McAfee from my computer (i think, i used their uninstall tool from their website) and done several scans. I've done spybot and run a ccleaner scan and registry fix everyday after uninstalling or moving another program to free some space. I've done the malware fixes from this forum, and still am running low. I haven't done a HJT yet, because I haven't taken the time to understand what it does.

any help and/or suggestions are appreciated!

    info:

the 6.83 is the OS drive for the computer. XP Pro w/SP2 installed.
also have a 160gb hdd as well, and have began installing and running programs from this drive.

Thanks grump. I found a lot of reference in the folder to Bellsouth HelpCenter, which is the support for my DSL. Anyways, I uninstalled HelpCenter, and deleted the folder, running CCleaner to make sure that I had removed the registry entries. Now I've freed up almost a gb, and was able to run Auslogics Disk Defrag (free space @ 13%) so I'm still looking for stuff to uninstall. I use most everything. :confused so I'm still wondering what I can do. Is there a thread that would instruct me on how to properly install and run a program from another HDD?

I'm sure some of the knowledgable gurus will jump in here to help you get your drives sorted out.

I might be wrong, and hope someone will correct me if I am, but I think if a given software gives you the option to select a drive and folder to install to, it ought to run just fine from your second drive. Maybe you can just un-install from the old drive, and re-install to the 160gb drive, although that might become problematic if your software was OEM pre-installed and you have no installation disks for those programs.

One thing I will mention, is that when I had to start clean with a new pc recently, I decided to use *to the greatest extent possible* as much "no-install" software as I could.
Most of my apps run from a portable USB hard-drive connected to any pc. The only thing I have actually installed on my pc hard-drive is Avast anti-virus, SpyBot, video-editing & authoring software (all freeware), Paint Shop Pro, and one software dvd player PowerDvd. So my control panel "Add or Remove Software" list of 20 entries has those apps plus hardware drivers and a handful of audio and video codecs. (that pc is not connected to internet, so no firewall, etc)
And I've never had such a CLEAN registry :cool

I am totally sold on the concept of "Portable Applications".
