Surround Sound not working

Xp recently died on me so i switched to the other OS ive got installed windows 7 and since then my sound hasn't been playing correctly im using logitech X-530 speakers and my motherboard is 7.1 surround compatible but all i want is 5.1 back on XP the sound was fine and it played in 5.1 with no problems but now after switching to 7 they only play in stereo except for certain games ive installed the Audio driver (SoundMAX) and have configured it to play in 5.1 and all speakers work fine in the test ive tried using a different player VLC as appose to wimp and still no dice ive configured everything to go directly to my speakers through soundMAX and within windows yet still only stereo sound

 

did you try looking to see if its a driver issue through divice manager
start > control panel > system > hardware > device manager

if you see anything with a yellow questionmark over it that could be your problem

ps: the instructions for device manager are the way you get it in xp but they should work for 7 as well though i havnt had the pleasure of trying 7

 

what sounds specifically are you not getting in surround? you say you have some games that are ok? I don't recall basic windows sounds or movies ever playing in surround, unless it's a dvd or something.

Death the easiest way to get there is by right clicking my computer and going properties
anyways yes i did check the device manager and everything is fine no question marks at all
Im getting all sound but unless im playing a game it only comes through the two front speakers i realise most things cant be played in true surround but xp would at least have sound coming from all speakers not just the front two

and Gloo that was the first thing i checked everything is configured for surround sound yet it still only plays through the front two speakers

 

maybe its an a individual problem with the games

 

All the games are working fine which is good but the problem is with my music and dvd's they only play through the two front speakers and no others
