Suspicious Activity ??

:major Hi majorgeeks looked at above posts and cannot see anything that relates to my problem.Anyway what i have noticed is when i open the task manager (small window) the cpu hits 100% and stays up but when open the window to full size it drops down but still randomly goes up and down a lot.This seems strange also i have application ubericon in system tray and this appears dimmed ??.On turning on PC hangs on welcome screen far to long before the desktop takes a while to appear with the icons.Used avg8 and adware 2008 full scans and did not detect anything.My Pc is windows xp home edition ,version 2002 , service pack3 , 2.66hz , 256 mb. Would hope you can suggest a course of action to see if i have any kind of problem on my software thanks team.

 

You can try the recommended procedures in the Malware Removal section, but I think the 256 MB of RAM might be more of an issue in your slow boot time. That is a rather low amount of memory, especially if you have a lot of items that start up with Windows, like ÜberIcon for example.

As for ÜberIcon: Did you somehow disable it?

Ya man, I agree with ^.^ , get rid of Ubericon and then try to get another stick of 256MB RAM. I have run XP since the beginning and 256MB tried my patience with a Tualatin Celeron 1GHz. There's no point in slowing it down.

There is a guide on Blackviper's site on which services can be stopped safely to increase speed, it won't be as dramatic as another 256MB RAM would! I guess it's SDRAM?

Better to upgrade your RAM AND visit the BlackViper site.
Check your Startup listing for any unnecessary starters on there using resources that you can't afford at this time.

 

I agree with the remaining of the posts, Mainly you need to upgrade your memory from 256MB to atleast 512MB. Windows xp needs atleast 512MB minimum to run but 1GB memory is better for windows xp

 

Thanks JustPlayin and Domluc i realised i must of already disabled Ubericon as it was faded in the system tray but since then i just uninstalled through add remove programs.And yes i hope that when i get another ram stick to match the 256mb ram things will improve but for now i will do this Basic Computer Maitenance soon and get back with the results.Thanks again
