svchost.exe application error

    I get the message on the screenshot, my sound also doesn't work on my laptop now. I have run registry cleaners, did system restore, and virus scans. Any help would be appreciated.
    By the way, I am using XP professional with SP2 and all updates installed.

    Have you run checkdisk on the drive?

    I ran checkdisk, it went through the three stages and closed, I guess there was no errors found

    Did you check both boxes? It should run through 5 stages.

    the chkdsk I ran was through the command prompt. tried chkdsk c: /f and it said that i would have to run it at the next start up and then it ran the same one as before.

    Had and virii or late, if so what ( if you can recall )?

    May need to also check that your laptops hard drive is properly seated and/or the cable is properly connected.

    If your Hard Drive under XP is formatted to NTFS then you can run this checkdisk >>>> chkdsk /f /r

    says it's formated to NTFS, and it says "cannot lock current drive" when i try to run chkdsk /f/r. Also, no virus on this computer that's ever been found. Some that my virus scan blocked before it could get in but that's been several months ago.

    Can't run while windows is running .... click on my computer / right click the c drive / properties / tools / disk check and check both boxes ...then restart.
