    Hi,

I have an older Gateway Solo Pro 9300 laptop with Windows 2000 Professional. I have run Windows Update, downloaded and installed over 50 Windows updates.

When I have no applications running at all, my CPU utilization is pegged at 95% to 100%, making it pretty much useless.

Can someone make a recommendation on how to resolve this issue? Thank you in advance for your feedback.

    Cheers,
    Beachgeek

Many viruses disguise themselves as 'svchost.exe'. The only thing that should ever be over 90% (or 20% for that matter) is System Idle..... Visit the malware removal forum and read the stickies...

From a command line, tasklist /svc will break down each process by service.

You can then see what all is running svchost.exe
