Ok... I seriously doubt this can be normal. *see pic*

I count SIX of them running. I recently fresh installed and I could have sworn I never had that many running before, if I even had more than one.

    Anyone know whats up?? thanks.

I've also got 6 copies running.

I think I gained a couple more recently when I went wireless but I've always had several copies.

    Ok, thanks alot everyone.
It seems its normal then. Sorry about that. I could have sworn I had gained at least 3 or 4 between XP instilations so I was sure something was odd. Good to know its nothing.

I have 7, one is 21k in size. It's because I have lots of start-up items.

svchost.exe is a valid Windows file, but there are plenty of viruses and worms that use the name scvhost.exe or similar, so you should always check the spelling.

if you ever think that svchost.exe is a cause for spyware, drop to a command prompt and..
    tasklist /SVC

this lists all the running tasks, PLUS what the svchost.exe processes are actually doing.. if one of them isn't running system services, just end it from the command prompt..

    taskkill /PID <insert process number taken from "tasklist /svc" here> /F /T

Keep in mind that command is only useful if the OS is XP Pro. It is not included in XP Home.
