    Good day, everyone!

I am SO pleased with this website; it has taught me so much! Thank you to everyone who helps out in all answers!

I do have a couple questions. I have run all the spyware, panda, Ccleaner, etc., and run HiJack this regularly and clean out the junk. It's made a heck of a difference in how my puter runs and I want to thank you.

Issue: I usually have a minimum of 5 Svchost.exe applications running, and today, am up to 7. Four say they are SYSTEM, Two Network Service, and one is Local Service. Is this kosher, or does it sound a little too overkill for this program (these programs)?

I do know that about once a week or so I have to delete server hijack. Should I inform my service provider of this, or is it strictly through my computer?rolleyes

Thank you for your help with these questions.

    Blessings to all...

    Brecki:)

It it normal to have multiple instances of those services, they are legit system processes.

Note, the process "svchost.exe" is the legit process, anything else simliar to this is more than likely malicious.

Also, let me saying using HijackThis is not recommended unless you an advanced user because removing the wrong entries could cause problems on your system.

Thanks, bjgarrick. Settled my mind on the svchost thing.

As for the hijack this, I ONLY delete the stuff that says its a server hijack, or extra button, or hijacker. I haven't deleted anything that has been an issue... YET.rolleyes

    Again, thank you. :wave

P/S: Is the server hijacker hitting my computer, personally, or should I inform my service provider? Guess I should run all the gauntlets again; been a few weeks.

Not all of these entries are bad, actually very few of these are bad so it's best to get expert advice before removing anything.

No! It's an infection that targets individual systems, they're primary goal is to redirect your browser to a rogue antispy products website. They're goal is to trick people into buying their rogue software basically.

Thanks! I won't talk to my SP, then. :)

I am somewhat advanced in my computer usage and knowledge and anything that I am unsure about, I do contact professionals, hence my posting here ;)
I have removed trojans from my registry without contacting professionals, and before I began learning so much, I created many issues and actually had to format and re-install everything. Of course, that was years ago. I think I've learned to be more careful. I understand you guys deal with a LOT of people who are just learning the ropes, and I take no offense at the things that are said. I am not even CLOSE to knowing half of what goes on in a computer, in the registry, and remember playing in DOS; not much though. But, I do know enough to know when I am being HiJacked (thanks to you guys), and that *extra buttons* are just extra stuff not needed on the puter.
I do read the logs that I run and if something seems out of character, I look it up. If there is still a question in my brain cell, I'll post here, or call a computer dude and usually am sent on a quest for more knowledge.

Again, I appreciate all the help you wonderful people are giving to those of us who are not up to the brain power you guys have. But, if you need some organic, homemade massage oil, that's my specialty.... Accident prone? I have a salve - home made, organic from the wilds of Alaska, that will help those cuts, scrapes and bruises heal fast without infection.... Need a tea to get your bowels moving? :strong I can make it for you! GUARANTEED... very little discomfort, too!!! :D Plus, it will supply you with vitamins, minerals, some sweating (it's a VERY mild detox), and a general feeling of goodness the next day.... LOL

At any rate, again... thanks for your help; catch ya on the flip side!
