svchost.exe

Hello,

I seem to have an svchost.exe process that runs and REALLY slows down my system (at times using 90% of my system resources). I do not even know where to begin on this one.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

What operating system are you using?

Thanks for your response. I am running Windows XP. I just tried the fix you posted but it did not seem to help. When doing the Windows update installer and Windows update, it said both were already installed (in the case of the update, I already had a more up to date pack it said).

That being said, I am still having an issue with a svchost taking up an extreme amount of Computer usage. Unfortunately, I am not even sure what to post in terms of conveying the information.

The problem is evidently often caused by Windows Update. Have a look at the helpful site below, and try what's there. I would try the bit under "Another Temporary Solution" first, if it looks like it is Update that's causing the problem:
