SVCHOST Problems

This is the error message and details when I start up. My sound is gone, bottom toolbar items are gone and toolbar wrong color. I have reloaded IE7 ran numerous scans etc. IE is acting stargane not allowing me to have tabs on top. Please bail me out on this one

Second: grab your Windows XP install CD (I'm assuming you're running XP) and put it in the CD drive. Click Exit when the big blue box opens up. Now, click Start, click Run, type cmd and press Enter. You should now have a black window open with white writing. Type sfc /purgecache and let it do its thing; maybe 10 or 20 second wait. Then type sfc /scannow and let it do its thing also. This one is longer; maybe 20 minutes. When it finishes, type exit and press Enter. This is the System File Checker routine and it can prove very helpful by checking and repairing system files as needed, but it isn't a bulletproof fix-all for Windows. Anyway, give it a shot, and let us know what happens. You can also try un-installing IE7 (go thru Add/Remove Programs). It will revert back to IE6 (if you're running XP).

Oh yeah- be sure to put a space before the slash in the commands above.

 

Thank You DLB, for the welcome and the fix. My toolbar is correct color, no error message upon startup. I have soundblaster and when this problem came about I lost sound. My icons disappeared. I'm an internet NPR person and enjoy other internet stations in the evening after work. I will try and reinstall soundblaster. If you know of a quick fix please let me know and again...
