SVRINET.EXE anyone know what this process is?

My Task Manager shows this process taking 60-100% of system resources and my PC is running so slooooow.

I searched for it on Yahoo & Google but no luck. I started having problems after WinXP sp2.

It does not show up in MSCONFIG.
When I close/stop it in task manager it immediately restarts.
Spybot and Symantec anti-virus do not remove it.
I spelled it exactly correct.

P4 2.6 512RAM

Have you tried searching on your computer, right-clicking the file and properties for some information?

 

hmm, file file is not on my HD. I find it several places in my registry - I delete every instance of it, only to find it again later (especially under runonce). Seems to be tied to mouse pointer.

I find it running still in safe mode and it still runs if I uncheck everything form running in MSCONFIG and reboot.

So, I deleted every instance of it in the registry, closed regedit and pulled the plug (in the hope it might not write it to the registry). Oddly enough, it is running again, but no longer going above 5% and I can use PC again.

Still working on it. Other suggestions? Thanks

 

There are some great free/shareware products available like Process Explorer, CodeStuff Starter, Dependency Walker etc that will tell you exactly what this is and what it's linked to.

Most should be available from the files page on this site.

You may also want to try a couple of online virus scanners.

 

got it!

seems when I origionally searched hidden files were excluded from view.

booted in safe mode with command prompt
cd windows\cursors
attrib -h *inet.exe
del *inet.exe

then booted and removed it again from registry
