Alright I have a Sony Vaio Rs-420 with some neat things in it. I was wondering if I can take everything thats inside if the case and transfer it to a new PC case. I was thinking no it wont work but I'll ask anyways. Here the case I wanna switch from my Sony Vaio PCV-Rs420 case for this http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=11-144-001&depa=1 I just want eveything thats inside my PC right now into that Pc case. Any chance that could work? Also do u think retail stores like compusa or something would do it for me and how much u think. I definetly do not wanna do thee swap by myself. i know for sure I'll break it or do something wrong. Again thanks for the help . U guys are the best place to go to for computer Help.

P.S- If u guys know any Black LCD display Pc cases for a good price plz tell. THX

As far as I know, Sony doesn't use any proprietary parts, so it should fit into a standard ATX case. You shouldn't have a serious problem doing it yourself.

The power supply might be different. Myself, I'd get a new mobo, processor and ram, and take out the drives and PCi/AGP cards from the old machine.

Oh, and you can get a decent LCD from www.matrixorbital.com or www.crystalfontz.com , and you REALLY want to be going with a serial display, not a paralell because it makes things SO much easier. It might be more expensive but at least you can be sure it will actually work, and it doesnt require any soldering, or identifying pins on a paralell cable (which is a right pain).

http://www.matrixorbital.com/pages/product_view.asp?CatID=4&ProductID=70 - Theres the drive bay insert for the screen.

    Theres a 20x4 display.

as for cases, I have an deep hatrid for pre-mod cases (being a modder I think it defeats the point!) But I kinda like that case ;) I'd replace the LED backlight on the temp display, and re-backlight the buttons and maybe even etch the window, maybe even remount it, and double up the blowholes in the top.

But thats another story all together!

I dont wanna do anything to the computer just the case. So its possible right? The only thing I was thinking aboout changing soon is assing more extra 512 ram.

Well you can try moving over the insides of it into another case, but I'd check the wiring to the motherboard before you do so!! make sure the colours match up on the ATX connector!! What most people do is swap the green wire with another wire so that when you press the on button, nothing happens.

Did you check the links for the LCD screens? Is that what you meant?

At first I was thinking about just adding a LCD screen but I said maybe I'll do it later. All I want is now is just a nice Black Case with eveything thats in my computer now just to the new case.

i have that case and my only two grudges with it is the power supply is a little low but assuming you don't have the geforce 6800 you should be OK ... and the fact that the HDD casing is connected to the main frame of the case making upgrading a pain ... when i read a review and the guy mentioned that i thought it wouldn't be a big deal ... but trying to sqeeze everything into the case around the HDD "holder" is a pain, other than that it's a great case(i'm referring to the Aspire X-Dreamer)

Hehe i guess their the same case but one cost more than the other. O I have a 9800XT. The power supply should be enough right?

the case comes with a 350 watt generic power supply ... you may want to look at your current power supply to see if it is better ... the one supplied with the case should be enough for a 9800XT ... although you may have to buy some cable splitters

and i think new egg might have just changed the price on ya while you were viewing the website ... i dunno ... cause they both say 59$

Hmmm do I have to buy anything else besides cable splitters if I do decide to do this myself. I'm not to sure doing this myself cause the only thing I ever install from my computer is a soundcard.

im not sure you even need those ... im sure you need to hook up your graphx card to the power supply, and the power supply that comes with it doesn't have alot of molex connectors ... that is the things that connect the power to your HDDs, CD player, etc ... im sure if the one supplied with the case doesn't cut it, the one you have will

Id suggest buying a copy of PC Upgrade magazine as they always have how to build your own system explanations in every issue ... they may not tell you how to configure your system ... but the info they give will at least give you a general explanation on how to build your own system ... when i built my server i had one issue from a year ago that explained some things that came in really handy .. and they explain stuff in simple terms ... im sure you could also find tons of info on how to build you own system by surfing the net ... another tip is to have a back up system in case something goes wrong while building your main system so you can always look stuff up on the net and ask questions on forums ... or at least have access to another PC like at a friends house or relatives house etc
