I swapped out a laptop from a dying laptop (motherboard issues) to one that was working fine. Hwever, when I attempt to load into windows I get a BSOD with a stop code of: 0000007B

Microsoft's KB article states that this could be to a SATA driver that is missing. I gather I must do a repair install and load drivers but from there i'm totally lost..

    Hi

Yes likely the SATA drivers, and what Windows version are you installing as if the laptop doesnt have a floppy drive then you are going to have to slipstream the drivers onto a disk created from an original Windows disk.

Need to get the drivers from the motherboard makers, then in some cases you may well need a floppy drive on a machine as the package to create the raid/SATA drivers need to unpack on a floppy.

Then once you have them slipstreamed or the laptop has a floppy (In know likely one that doesnt as not many do these days, but never know as I dont know the model of laptop you have) then when you boot to the Windows CD it will give you the option to hit F6 to install additional drivers.

nLite will help with creating a slipstreamed disk for install of Windows + SATA/RAID drivers and guides HERE

Sorry. I should have been a bit more thoughrough in my initial posts.

too much on the mind today..

    anyways -

The old laptop with the failing logic board was a Acer Travelmate 4060. I took the HDD out of that machine and installed in a Acer Travelmate 4220.

Both are/were running Windows XP professional

Have the same issue, trying to do a clean install of xp on a 500GB sata hard drive on my desktop.
I've slipstreamed the sata drivers onto bootr windows cd using nLite, do i still need to press F6 at the prompt or will it pick up the slipstreamed drivers automatically?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello,
You probably should have started a separate thread instead of posting to this one. If you slipstreamed the drivers correctly they will be installed automatically.
