    Ok guys,

I have a user that is getting a new computer. I have to transfer all of her files and programs on the new computer. The question is- do I need to manually install all of the programs she is using, or should I ghost it? I have never used ghost...

Ghosting is easy to do. I use Norton Ghost.

The thing is though, their new PC basically has to be exactly like their old PC. Since you are not doing a new install of the OS, the Ghost image won't be able to load any new drivers for any new hardware it detects, i.e: video card, modem, NIC, sound, etc.

Ghosting is great for backups of your own machine, or if you have multiple PC's that are exactly identicle.

Alternatively, you can just install the OS, install all programs, and as for documents, just copy over the C:\Documents and Settings\that persons profile, which conatins all the user settings and what not.

If you are using windows XP you can use the file and settings transfer wizard. located in the start menu under all programs > accessories > system tools
