    Hello everyone:

    I haven't posted in a long time..but here goes.

I want to switch to a new computer that was given to me by work and want to make sure I transfer everything over correctly.

    1. Email: have saved the address book but not messages. Can this be all done through the .pst file?

    2. Internet: will be getting the settings from my ISP provider.

    3. Documents: 99% of everything is on external swap drives because I knew that I was switching. I will check the C:/ to ensure nothing is missed.

    4. Anti-virus: Have CD and codes needed.

    5. Office 2003: Have CD and codes needed.

I want to make sure that I am not forgetting anything..

    Thanks,
    Linda

    Hi Linda,

I think you have covered most of it.

Your emails will depend upon what email cliet you are using... Asuming Outlook you should be able to create a .PST and drop all your emails in then copy it over.

You shouldn't need to do anything with internet, assuming you have an ADSL connection and you are not changing your Router. Your ISPs setting are stored on the router and (assuming you are using DHCP) the routers DHCP server will set up and allocate the network settings when you connect it.

I also like to do a search for *.doc, *.xls, *.JPG etc on my local disks to make sure I have picked up all the file locations

    Good Luck

One thing I would almost cry over is the lose of Browser Bookmarks and all associated passwords. Make sure you "export" your bookmarks to desktop (I also email the file as a backup) and transfer that file over, also important is the "passwords" for each and every site you frequent.

If you have the browser save all your passwords then it is easy to forget that these won't be available on a new build.

Ya, that's one I always forget when building a new rig.:-o Thankfully, all the sites(30+) that I visit daily have been burned into my brain.;)
