Switching to 64bit Win XP OS

Im fed up with Vista sp1.
Vista takes forever to boot since I upgraded to sp1, hangs frequently, errors, and all that on a laptop with 2.5 Core 2 Duo and 4 GB of RAM!
My older desktop PC (Pentium D, 2 GB RAM) runs WIN XP Pro sp3 and performs well.

Im considering switching to Windows XP, but I got 4 GB of RAM which means it wont recognize it. So the best choise is a 64bit system.

I heard and read of many issues with 64 bit systems, but Id like to know a bit more, and also hear opinions of people who has done the same.

So can anyone please explain the difficulties with 64x OS in details?

The main issue would be drivers. Make sure the required drivers are available for your computer before you dump Vista. You could install XP 32bit and the computer could use 3. something GB of your current RAM.

I suspect you have other issue(s) with your computer. I have the 32 bit Vista on my laptop with 2GB of RAM and have no speed problems.

 

Maybe you need to update drivers or perhaps delete one update at a time until you find the culprit or revert back to pre-SP1 and try running the full dow3nload instead of going through WU. I haven't heard of too many complaints about SP1, if any.

 

I decided to switch to Vista x64 instead.
I'l try it for some time, got used to some things I guess. Besides not all drivers are availible for XP 64bit... well I'l change the interface to make It look like XP just to warm my heart... hehe.
