Symantec Endpoint question

So, my office just put Symantec Endpoint on my work laptop. While I have local admin rights, there must be some other permissions set globally because now I can't use AIM. Before, if I was connected to my home wireless, I could use AIM no problem. If I was at work, I had to SSH tunnel through Putty - but it would work. Now, with Endpoint installed, it looks like it actually disables the program itself rather than any ports (or maybe the ports, too).

Anyone have any experience with this program that could help me maybe get around this?

Well, I know for a fact it is indeed blocked. What I'm trying to find out is if there's anyway around it - like the SSH Tunnel I used to get around the port blocking in the firewall.

We will not in any way help you get around workplace security, as many here are the it guys at there place of work. If i found a user evening attempting to use ssh to get around my security, it wouldn't be likely that they would have a job, after i explained how dangerous and threatening to our work place network that could be to the manager/owner/ceo. Sorry I have to be blunt here, but you dont seem to understand, that if you need access to something go the normal route and talk to it. Dont try and get around our security as you just make more work and problems for us. In the long run you will be caught and probably fired or disciplined. Oh and right now with the economy as it is, plently of other people looking for work willing to play by the rules. Koolfriend4u, also rude to tack on other peoples threads.

colemman i agree wit ur security conscious workplace.

But i asked for a solution, which i need. And i believe u cant float individual threads for the same topic.

So if u think that this is the only solution u can close this thread stating that for any solutions this is the right method.

No one will peep here then.

sorry am straight fwd, rather than being rude.

for every problem - even microsoft gives a solution ,which is a good one. But GAK wil the problem get solved.

So i need a real solution, rather than philosophies

your solution is to contact your admins/management and get what ever you need approved.

So your saying your org can't afford this app or management to run this app, but then its magiculy installed and you need a way around it? Do explain.

It has been installed & there wont be any technical support from IT guys for small file transfers in an org as big as employing 16k ppl / day.

I hope I have answered you.

Colemanguy is correct in that members of MajorGeeks.com will not assist you in workarounds that violate system security of organizations. Their policies, procedures and systems are in place for good reason. We will not assist in breaching those under any circumstance.

As you state, hacking is illegal. No matter how badly you need it, you won't get it from MajorGeeks.com. If you believe you have found instances of such downloads on this site, feel free to let me know and I will look in to your concerns.

MajorGeeks.com does ask that you do not hijack other people's threads with your own questions, even if they seem relevant to the original question. Thread hijackiing causing confusion for the OP trying to follow the advice, for anyone else trying to follow advice, and for those trying to give advice. This thread has now run it's course.
