    Hi there

Firstly must say thanks to the Major Geeks for sorting out a Trojan problem i had. Since then the computer has been working fine. However in the last few days my Synaptic Touch pad (V5.9 on PS/2 Port) has frozen and will not respond in any way whatsoever. I have a normal mouse that is working fine. Re-booting does no good and when i check the pointing devices' properties it says that the device is working properly.....it is, however, not!

    Any ideas?!?!

    Many thanks

Get out the manual to find out whay key combo turns the touchpad off and on. On my one notebook F2 toggles between the touchpad, the eraserhead and the mouse; on another notebook, it is easy because there is a lighted button above the touchpad to turn the touchpad off and on.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't work. Still frozen and the properties page still says that everything is ok and that the device is on and working. I went to the Acer website (i have an Acer extensa 6600) but they didn't even have it down as a product in their technical support page. Bit of a strange one this. What do you think could be wrong.

Thanks for the continuing support by the way.

    Hi

Sorry for the delay in reply. I have tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the driver and though that was succesful the actual touch pad is still not responding. any ideas? back to the makers maybe?

I think these IBM (Leveno) have a synaptic touch pad and when you connect a mouse they are disabled. Are you trying to use both?

I think my other half was on the computer when it stopped working and she had an external mouse in use, so perhaps your right, but i cant do anything to the computer now without using the external mouse. what do you think?

So the pad is not working even if the mouse is not plugged in?
Check in control panel for a touchpad or go into the mouse settings and see if there is a tab to test it / set the sensativity. There is also a way to turn the touchpad off on newer laptops (Compaq, I know of) top middle of the touchpad has a button to turn it off so you can rest your hands there.

Thanks for your patience. None of those are working, still no good. The computer is occasionally rejecting the external mouse. is this relevant?

    thanks once again
