USB mouse works ok. Touchpad works except for not recognizing a "touch" that correlates with a mouse left click. I have tried ro reload drivers.

You never stated what the manufacturer or model of the machine is, so my guess is that it is just like the touchpad on my netbook. I only use a mouse with my machine, refuse to use the touchpad, since it is junk.

If the other features of the touchpad are working normally I suggest you try a reset of the Tapping feature.
Control Panel > Mouse > Device Settings > Settings > Tapping
If Enable Tapping is ticked try un-ticking it > Apply > tick it again > Apply
Also have a look at Sensitivity > Palm Check to make sure the setting is not too high
And have a look at Sensitivity > Touch Sensitivity to make sure the setting is not too Heavy
If that doesn't help have a look at the Virtual Scrolling > Scrolling Region and make sure the region is not too large.
