Synchronizing between computers?

I have two computers, and I would want to sync a few folders between them. My other computer is a XP (x86) Home and other is XP x64 Pro.

I may buy a external HD, if I find one with support for multiple computers at once. Suggestions for this? (This could've been in hardware forum, but the sync is the main thing)

If you want to sync regularly you will need to set up a home network through a router, or at least set up a direct cable connection between the two. The network solution is far preferable, and after setting it up both computers can then have access to a shared external drive.

You cannot directly connect an external drive to two computers at the same time without some sort of switching arrangement so that only one has access at any one time.

The briefcase option seems a bit complicated. Is there any good external software for this?

    Hi

Try Synctoy as it will sync how in a fashion as you describe, all you would need to do is to set up like this

PC1 has a folder sync with a folder called say Sync PC1 with a folder on your external HDD called say Main Sync

PC2 then would have a sync folder called Sync PC2 with the same folder on your extrernal HDD created earler called Main Sync

Do read the instructions HERE on various sync setups.

Well, I have already set up an network, I have smth like 6 comps in it.
SyncToy seems to work, only thing is that it works only on one computer.

Well, this can be circled around with a virtual HD, I think.

    Now, to create one.......

OK, you just didn't say so. Anyway, I use scheduled syncs with Syncback free across my network for exactly your purpose. The free version is right at the bottom of the page -
