Synonym For "knockoff"

saw this on a couponing site:

note the tags. PS IMP OF CSH MIST/BMBSHL.

so perfect scents "imp" of cashmere mist/bombshell.

imp clearly does not match "inspired by" from the packages.

i would normally call this a "knockoff". others may say "generic" "substitute" "stand-in" "imitation" "fake" "phony" "cheapo" "house brand". what on earth begins with "imp" that fits here?!

"impression of"? does anyone use that for knockoffs?

 

To me, fake and phony are products made to look like the real stuff -- as accurately as possible (looks, not quality). Fake and phony are illegal.

Inspired by... / compare to... / impression of... spelled out, are cheapo generic knockoff's which may not be illegal. Sometimes, knockoff's aren't even all that cheap, price wise!
