    Hello there anyone,
I have a P4 system running W2000. System worked fine until out of nowhere it would not boot into windows. I get windows logo, and the progress bar goes all the way, and then the power turns off, and system reboots again. I dont hear any beeps that could foretell a problem. Could it be my power supply or memory, or something else? Thanks for any help...

The first question that I always ask when attempting to answer questions like yours is: Does it boot into Safe Mode?

    oh no,
it doesnt log into windows in any mode. does the same thing in each case. i even put in a pci video card, and changed setting in bios to reflect that, and it still does that. im still trying various things to see what might be the problem. this is giving me a headache ... thx for reply ...

What was the last thing you did, before this starting happening?

sounds like my hard drive 2 weeks ago. Go to a friends putor and look up your hard drive manufacturer. They usually have a diagnostic download on to a floopy for the hard drive. start your putor with the floppy in. It should tell you if the drive is failing.

    Couple things kevmcq7,
Telling someone to take it to a shop isnt helping!
Suggesting to boot from an XP disk wont help this person as they are running Windows 2000!

    Are you getting any errors/messages?
A failing PSU might cause power down or restart, probably should test her.
You say you cant boot to safe mode or any other Advanced start up Options?
(pressing F8 key during boot accesses Advance Start up Options)
Humm? corrupt OS or failing HDD?
Last resort, might try Repair install of W2k or if no important data on your HDD, a Fresh install.

When not able to boot in safemode then things are bad.

    Things to consider:
    - Try booting in Last Known Configuration.
    - Try using some diagnostics software like UltimateBootCd and see if RAM and HDD is okay.
    - Try using the recovery console to restore the registry created at install (Though if it works then all your settings will be lost, and all installed software will not work). (Since the machine stops before you can actually perform login, then it is probably one of the machine registry files)
    - Try to Reinstall on top of existing installation
