    Hi all

Well where I start with this -

I decided to build myself a new high spec PC.

The PC hardware specs are below

    Gigabyte Quad Royal motherboard
    P4 775 560 3.6 800FSB with HT
    2 GB DDR2 667
Pci Express Nvidia Geforce 6800 Ultra 256mb

Now then the problem I have is when playing games, the games all load up but the crash as soon as I actually enter the game world whichever one it may be.

I think it is something to do with the hardware. The M/B I have has x4 PCI express slots

X2 of them are PCI Express x16
X2 of them are PCI Express x1 or x8

The games I am trying to play are Matrix Online, Half Life 2, and Far Cry.

I have got the matrix to run by placing the GPU in to the PCI Express x8 slot but the others won’t run.

The above specs absolutely blow all of the recommended game specs away and I am getting to the end of my own knowledge base!!!

I have stumbled across another error I made, the MB supports DDR2 dual ram and when activated doubles the bus speed of the RAM the bus speed of the ram I have is 667 which means doubled up it goes to 1334 my MB will go to 1066 and my processor with go to 800fsb. Therefore I have to run the ram at single channel, although I as I understand the bios will automatically adjust settings according to component speeds!!

The PCI slots are meant to be used for SLI dual technology but as I only have one GPU I didn’t think it would matter which PCI-E slot I used perhaps this is why my crashes occur!

I have installed the latest NVIDIA drivers

Does anyone have any suggestions at all or can anyone shed any light on the whole PCI-E X16, I am not even sure if my GPU will support X16 but I would have thought it would - even if this was the case it would still run in the X1 or X8 slots but it only runs one game !

Please help I am at the end of my patience with this thing!!

I hope I have not bought a faulty GPU!

If its a SLI board and you only have one card in, it does have to be in a certine slot. If its in the wrong one then i can see why you are having problems. Try switching slots and see what happens...also check your jumpers on your motherboard to make sure they not set up to run SLI.

Thanks for the advice - I tried putting the card in the other slot and it didnt work.

As for the jumper settings my M/B has a special chip that is inserted one way for SLi and another for Normal and it is in normal mode.

I also borrowed a Nvidia 7300 GS PCi-e 256mb to test if it works, this GPU worked fine so I think the M/b is configured corectly for single cards

Thanks for the help if you havce any other sugestions that would be great

Hmm...what kind of power supply you got? That setup will suck a little juice. If you have good PSU then i guess you my have got a bad video card.... i cant see anyother reason for it crash. Anyone see why it would crash?

    Yeah I got a 550 W PSU

I think I got a faulty card too
