    Hello all,

    I'm new to your forum.
1st of all, your site rocks! Keep up the good work...
I used the search but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.
I'm using Microsoft Windows XP Home SP2 and have a couple of problems
I can't seem to find an answer to. So I thought I'd ask you guys.

    1. Is there a cleaner for the system configuration utility
I have several unused or unwanted entries but I can't delete them.
I have 3 - Unknowns under my Services tab and like 10 already
deleted software entries under my Startup tab.

    2. What is the best freeware registry cleaner for Microsoft XP Home SP2?

Thanks for any help in advance.

It might be that I just got out of bed but can you explain the system configuration utility a bit more? I've got no idea what it is although I bet I see it everyday.

    Also what services tab?

Windows' System Configuration Utility lets you review [not delete or 'clean'] the settings and commands that load during the boot routine, identify the ones you don't need or that cause problems with your system, and then disable the undesirables. Unchecking the unnecessary items from this list will not "remove" the listed corresponding application entries from your computer.

Suggestion: Try the cleaning utilities listed below; and then check the errant entries again using the System Configuration Utility.

You can use the freeware utility called Autoruns to display a find out a great deal of useful information about whatever Autorun items run on your system.

The best freeware for cleaning out useless, outdated, unnecessary, etc. entries in your registry is called Crap Cleaner (CCleaner) This is a very useful freeware tool/program program comes with a competent registry scanner which scans for invalid references and options to start cleaning them out of your system. I use it every day, right after booting up.

(Note: The CCleaner developer suggests this utility is for advanced users - make sure that you perform a registry backup prior to trying CCleaner).

I have also used the freeware utility BeClean because it a cleaning 'suite' that has a Registry Cleaner, Internet Cleaner, History Cleaner, Internet Cache Cleaner, Temporary Files Cleaner, Disk Cleaner, Desktop Cleaner and Start Menu Cleaner.

Once again; make sure that you perform a registry backup prior to trying out/using BeClean

    Yes, msconfig lol sry

Thanks for the help, every menu in WindowsXP has a delete function even the
registry but not in msconfig. What they were thinking, I'll never know. Thats the one program that always has left over crud in it after you clean up a system.

    Thanks again for the help!

Wow, Ccleaner did the trick. msconfig is now clean, registry is clean and no error messages after I reboot. AWESOME! Thanks!
