I have been having issues with DCOM in my system for almost a week now. There were two malicious files that have been deleted that seemed to cause the problems.
Just now, an hour into it, SuperAntiSpyware was running and the computer crashed. No blue screen, it turned off and rebooted.
The error message that I retrieved from the even viewer was:

    Source: DCOM Event ID: 10024
The machine wide group policy Access Limits security descriptor is invalid. The security descriptor is defined as an invalid Security Descriptor Definitions Language (SDDL) string. The requested action was therefore not performed. Please contact your administrator to get the security descriptor corrected in the Group Policy settings.

I am so frustrated with this DCOM! I don't have any other computers networking with mine, so why do I have to have it? Please someone help...

I forgot to add that I'm running on XP Service Pack 2, Gateway dual processor. I did a System Recovery on Sunday and saved all of my folders and files on the C: drive (it automatically saved the information there).
I'm running Troubleshooter right now. I'd appreciate any help with this.

Many of the newer malware variants are 'wise' to scans by SAS, MBAM, and others, and will crash during scans, prevent software installation, lock up the PC when scanning starts or in mid scan, etc. You may want to visit the Malware Removal Forum after reading and following the steps in the world famous Major Geeks Malware Removal Guide.

    Good luck!

Actually, that was what I was in the middle of when it crashed.
I have now had to do a system restore to early this morning just so the system doesn't crash every three minutes.
I'm just trying to get all of my files and folders on my external drive. It's not reading it now.
Everything was manageable until I started that Malware Removal system.
    Someone, seriously help me.

OK.... if you're at the point where you simply want to save your music, pics, docs and the like, and you just want to wipe and reload, I strongly recommend using a 'live CD'. It's basically a scaled down Windows that runs entirely from the CD, so you won't have to deal with Windows crashing. To create a Windows 'live CD' you'll need a Windows install CD and a functional PC with a CD burner, a blank CD (duh), and a download of the UBCD4Win (It stands for the Ultimate Boot CD 4 Windows). Then follow the how-to guide at this link. Once the CD is built and burned, you'd boot to it on the PC where your stuff is that you need to save, be sure your external is already plugged in. When it's all booted up, you'll see a familiar Windows environment where you can copy-n-paste to your external drive all you want. The UBCD4Win is a priceless tool for PC owners (and it's free!). If you don't have a Windows install CD, you can use a live Linux CD. It's the same thing: a bootable operating system that runs entirely from a CD, but it's Linux. The release of Linux known as Knoppix (download from here) is very similar to Windows (but it's free) and you should be able to figure out how to copy your stuff. The download is an ISO file which you would burn as an image, DO NOT burn it as a regular data file or it will not boot. Most burning programs will burn ISO image files, but Windows XP's built-in burning program doesn't. You can use the freeware ImgBurn to burn ISO images. Just install it, browse to the source ISO, put a blank in the burner, and click 'burn'. Easy. If you need more help, or have questions, feel free to ask!
Good luck! I hope this helps!

Alright, we backed all of our pics, music and files on to an external hard drive. We did a System Recovery. We installed our drivers. I've checked the motherboard and fans for overheating (but I'm not quite sure if I did it properly and how to find out if there's an error). I was downloading XP SP3 and the system crashed.
I'm about to throw the tower out the window...
