Hello. I have a question I hope you can answer. I need to know why and how I can fix when I get the message when I run System File Checker in CMD (When run as a System Administrator.):

    Verification 98% complete.
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Yes, it stops at 98% complete and basically says everything is okay, but this scan is not complete. How come it does not complete to the *full 100%*??? I need to know why this is happening and what I can do to get a *full 100%* scan complete from now on? Please reply. I am using Windows 7 Professional.

    Please reply.

    Thank you!

I'm tempted to say that it's checking your file system and finding that all but 2% of it is NTFS. So it's telling you that it's 98% FAT free... But I'd better not. rolleyes

Perhaps someone else has a better idea...

How long was it at 98%?
May have had a large file (system restore) that would take some time.

    Hi

SFC is a curious beast as its been around from the 9x days and at times when its finished its scan while it may state 98% its been that quick to state your system is of that the 100% comment doesnt show up, I'd hazard a guess that its completed its scan.

Could try a SFC scan from the Win7 DVD or from Safe Mode or if you didnt run it from an elevated CMD prompt then try that also (right click CMD and choose Run as Administrator)

Are you having issues on that PC that you need to run SFC?
Could also check the logs %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log and follow the info HERE (while its for Vista its the same for Win7)

You may need to copy and paste the log file to the desktop and then open Notepad as Run as Admin to gain permissions to open and view the log file.

Hello. DavidGP may be correct that it saying 98% ‘done’ when in reality it ‘IS’ done and never has time to report the additional 2%, saying “Verification 100% complete.”. So replying to hrlow2 inquiry, as soon as “Verification 98% complete.” is shown, only 1 second later, do I get the “Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.” There is no ‘real’ delay. So DaivdGP does make sense. However, I will say in the past when I ran SFC, I did always received the ‘100%’ indication regardless of passes or fails with Windows Vista and Windows 7 (basically cousins). So I still think something is up here. I know this may sound trivial depending how you look at it, however, it may not either since what really happened to the 2% of the “system files” not getting scanned? THEN DO I HAVE AN BIGGER ISSUE???

I ran Chkdsk during a system reboot and yet it never began the full process, I did get a "Volume..." (or "System" -- I cannot not recall now of the correct word.) "...is clean" message instantly after the process barely started.

What I am going to do is temporary install Windows 7 again without activation on another hard drive and run SFC there. If I DO get the FULL 100% complete verification (and of course with a clean install, I should get the pass statement (Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.), then I KNOW something is going on here. I am doing this to compare if this is the case with all Windows 7, even though I KNOW I never experienced this before.

Also if someone could also run their SFC on their system and tell me what percentage it ends at and the response from SFC. This would be much appreciated!

    I will be back soon.
