Opened up My Pictures and found over 3,400 files...ini, .dat., .dll, .eml, .exe, jpg, .wmp etc. What to do or is this normal Folder for WinXP Home?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm a bit suprised that no one follwed up on my post. I'm sure it's my fault. Let me try this, why or how did those files in my Pictures Folder and what can be done about it from happening again? No one from Annoyances.com has a clue!?

Let's start from the basics, what imaging software are you using that would use My Pictures?

When asking for technical help more information is better, things like operating system, CPU, CPU speed, amount of RAM, that kind of thing. It gives us something to work with, otherwise we're in the land of WAG (Wild A$$ Guess).

My recollection is that .eml is an email file... confused

Just a guess, but it looks like you've been downloading into that folder. I've done similar, but it is strange.

Microsoft Digital Imaging is installed but I don't use it)

    WIN XP 2 Home
    2.00 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64
    64 kilobyte primary memory cache
    512 kilobyte secondary memory cache
    384 Megabytes Installed Memory

    Slot 'DIMM0' has 256 MB
    Slot 'DIMM1' has 256 MB
    Slot 'DIMM2' is Empty
    Slot 'DIMM3' is Empty

So far have tried several system restores, defrag, no viruses detected no adware, spyware using CA, Verizon Internet Suite and defrag.

Nice setup. I'll go with the downloads theory, but truthfully I don't have a clue. I'm an advanced user in 98SE, but starting out in XP. If you read some of my other posts you'll see where I've been taking target practice on my feet.

Oh well, this is how we learn.

One side thought, assuming it is downloads for the moment, how much 3rd party software do you have installed? The reason I ask is, if you do have a lot of extra programs that happen to be living in that folder, how badly are you screwed if they disappear? It is something to think about if you decide to move the contents or (if you're real adventurous) delete them.

Excuse me while I go reformat my XP disk...

Good news is I just bought Registry Mechanic Desktop and the issue has been taken care of! Yeah, made another restore point then deleted everything. There were a few 3rd party programs, and a few..oh...kinda important ones for msin and others. After deleting only my mouse-keyboard worked. Registry Mechanic really lived up to the reviews!

I'm not a go by the manual kinda guy...more like trial & error.

Anyway, thanks to all...I'm sure I'll be back and sounding like another Homer *s*
