Hello! My friend told me about your site and said you could help me with this virus. My Avira detected malware called System fix. As soon as it happened, this window opened telling me I had a bunch of errors with the HDD. Any program I ran would stall. There were also 20+ notifications telling me that certain files in the system 32 folder were corrupt. My friend went into the registry and deleted some files. The virus isn't there anymore but now the problem is that desktop icons are hidden, and the right side of my start menu is blank. He told me to put in the boot disk and do a system restore but i'm not sure if I should do that first. I'm afraid i'll lose information and there are no restore points saved on my computer. Should I go through the read and run with you guys first?

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    Download exeHelper by Raktor.
    • Double-click on exeHelper.com to run the fix.
    • A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed.
    • A log file named exeHelperlog.txt will be created in the directory where you ran exeHelper.com
    • Attach the exeHelperlog.txt file to your next message. (How to attach items to your post)
Note: If the window shows a message that says "Error deleting file", please re-run the program before posting a log - and post the two logs together (they will both be in the one file).
Please download and run the below tool named Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) which may help allow other programs to run.
There are 4 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.

Vista and Win7 users need to right click and choose Run as Administrator

You only need to get one of them to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.
    1. Rkill.exe
    2. Rkill.com
    3. Rkill.scr
    4. Rkill.pif
If you are having problems running Rkill, try downloading one of the below renamed copies of RKill
Now if Rkill ran, immediately run the below immediately and attach the log from Malwarebytes.
Now along with the logs requested above, tell us what your current status is.

    Thank you! Logs uploaded!

I'm having trouble maneuvering around windows. All of my desktop files are hidden and the right half of my start menu is gone. There is not showing Documents, pictures, music, games, computer, control panel, etc.

Thank you Tim. I ran unhider.exe and it restored the desktop to normal. I looked at the link you posted and the things that were in the zip were things that the unhider program already restored. I attached a photo to show you what my start menu looks like and see what's gone.
