Periodically the System folder (with Defrag) simply disappears off my computer.

I have Dell Inspiron 8200 Laptop and have reformated and reinstalled my XP software 10 times with Dell (their only solution to this problem).

I don't want to just let it remain fragmented, so is there anywhere to get the Defrag file or anyone know of a way to fix this problem?

Which system folder are you referring to?

When you hit the start button and go to programs there is normally a "system Files" folder that contains the "defrag" file.

Unzip this, and copy the folder to C:\Documents and Settings\Start Menu\All Users\Programs\Accessories

It may have some extra icons due to SP2 being on this machine.

One of the reasons I started having problems was SP2... although I appreciate the help, I'm not putting anything on my system that has ANYTHING to do with SP2. Thanks though.

    So be it.

    Shortcuts, are shortcuts, however.

    SP2 or not.

The syntax for shortcuts didn't change from SP1 to SP2, they are all the same. Just delete the one that says "Security Center".

Using those shortcuts does NOT install anything on your computer : the tools you cannot see are still on the machine, only the button to press has dissapeared.

The problem isn't the shortcuts. It's the fact that the Folder which contains "Defrag" and "restore" has been deleted completely. Even when I did a system recovery off the XP disk, it didn't return. When I do a search for restore, it says "no file".

Adrynalyne, that did fix it. Thank you for the zip. And thank Goldfish, for pointing out that it didn't effect it.
