System fonts-How do I know which ones they are?

I use a couple of creative programs and also have downloaded some cool fonts that I use a lot. I'd like to get rid of some of the Microsoft fonts (and others that came in my art programs) because they are so similar (and boring) they are a waste of time to sort through when I'm looking for something fancy.

But, I had a bad experience once before on an old computer when I deleted fonts at random, because I deleted some that were system fonts used on templates, main screens, etc. When I was done deleting boring fonts, my main screen was in Kid's Print!!! (no joke). ( I copied all the fonts on my friend's computer and reinstalled on mine the ones I didn't have.) Don't want to do that again, ever.

I have XP and would like to know if there's a way to identify which are system fonts.

    Thanks a lot.

The windows system fonts are Tahoma,Times New Roman, Arial, Verdana,Trebuchet, and MS Sans Serif.
Other apps may require more fonts.
