    Helo,
I have a HP-dv6258se pavilion notebook with AMD processor and vista 32 bit running on it. I was recently trying to update my BIOS as my notebook was producing lot of heat. I looked in HP.com and there was a thread which requested customers to update BIOS to resolve this issue.

So I downloaded the BIOS software and tried to update when suddenly the screen went blank in the middle of the process. I waited for around 30mins and nothing happened :( . I tried to restart and after that there was no display. The LED lights on the notebook are on now but nothing else seems to work.

Could you help me in this? I tried looking in other threads but could not find any solution?

    Thanks in Advance :)

Unless your unit has the BIOS recovery option [which not many do] you will probably have to send it in to get the BIOS chip reprogrammed.

The only other option is if there is a DOS based flash utility you could make a Windows 98 boot disk & try reflashing IF it will boot off of the floppy doesk which is highly doubtfull

I feared it would be something like this.....if i do send it to the manufacturer, will they be able to save my data or will they reformat it???

If the BIOS chip is replaced, or reprogramed , it shouldn't affect the hard drive as long as the motherboard isn't replaced with a different model.

The thing is some techs tend to reinstall a fresh copy of Windows whether it needs it or not without bothering to try to save anything.
You could include a note asking the hard drive not be formatted unless absolutly neccessary.
The only way to guarntee your data won't be lost is to save it yourself by transfering it off of the hard drive.
That would involve removing the HD from the laptop & hooking it up to another computer in a proper external enclousure.
