system information not accessable

im running win 2000 on a old computer i got. when i go to system information i get cannot access the windows managment insturment software. windows management files maybe moved or missing. i get this when i click on every thing there. Thanks

 

it says cannot find the file `sfc/scannow`(or one of its components). make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available. Thanks

Oops, typo. There needs to be a space after the 'sfc': sfc /scannow

Click START, then RUN, then type in services.msc (press enter)

Check to see if Windows Management Instrumentation is running or not. If not, highlight the entry and right click the entry and select START.

If an error comes up, please inform us, with the error, in exact details.

If this is already running, please inform us.

SFC /scannow has never been a sure fire way of fixing anything. I have yet to see it work. IMHO....

Edit: Also check the event viewer for any WMI related errors.

START, RUN, type in: eventvwr.msc (press enter).

Either it will be under system or programs.

could not start the windows managment instrumetation service on locale computer. error 1053. the service did not respond to the start or control reqest in a timely fashion.

 

wmi warning. the registration information for the image file unknown is not valid.

 

Where do i find the file wbemcomn.dll

 

What service pack are you running?

SP4?

If so, I'd try re-applying SP4 to see if this helps, then of course re-installing any updates.

If the file you downloaded did not help, we can go from there.

I only sugested re-installing sp4, as a preliminary factor.

Another thing that may or may not work is the following.

Rename the directry c:\winnt\system32\wbem\repository to c:\winnt\system32\wbem\repository.1 (notice the period)

Try to restart WMI.

 

after i took the file wbemcomn.dll and place in the file c:/winnt\system32\wbem, now i get this winmgmt.exe entry point not found the procedure entry point ? get tickcount@cwbemtime@@sa>av1@xz could not be located in the dynamic link library wbemcomn.dll

 

also this error code could not start the windows managment instrumetation service on locale computer. error 1053. the service did not respond to the start or control reqest in a timely fashion.

WMI is a really tricky thing.

Type in the following, followed by the enter key. Please report any errors here.

btw, what virus, firewall programs are ye running?

avira antivir personal edition classic and sygate personal firewall ill try the other stuff later got cloths to wash.

 

Additional things to try.

Try my method above:

in safe mode.

Also, try the following attachment. Rename .txt to .bat and run this.

Any errors please respond. Near the beginning of the script, it will ask you to press any key to continue. Wait about a minute, then smash any key in frustration!

Yet another thing to try, that is similar to what I suggested.

As you can guess, I'm not very familiar with WMI. Just trying to help out, instead of doing the usual repair installation, which can cause other headaches.

i fixed it. got mad and formated my hard drive and did a reinstall alls well again Thanks for your help.
