    hi all,
i have this little program on my pc

    http://www.gtopala.com/

its a stand alone system information tool, i also have a multimedia keyboard (compaq spare part 271122-001), the keyboard seems to be for w98 but i run w2k (my pc is bought, scrounged, borrowed and pinched),
what i want to know is this -
the 8 multimedia buttons do not work, on checking with siw it gave me a bit of info and this - tshoot.chm,hdw_keyboard.htm - when i googled it, it came up with a hardware install file download, being a suspicious sort of person i declined then came here to ask if anyone has any experiences with this program and the info it gives (e.g driver download and file download info)
    thanks for any help

Uninstall yours & install this one. What you need is a driver for the keyboard. It should come with the hardware. If not, google the model # on the back of the keyboard.

Once the driver is installed, try the keys. You can also use Windows' built-in shortcuts for the keys. Right-click any program on desktop or start menu > properties > shortcut key, click any of the multimedia key, ok

    hi,
i have everest as well but siw seems to give more info about more things, i use both to compare and cross reference,

got no drivers for the keyboard (free from work - but new, just old) using w2k ones,
not sure what you mean by the rest

.chm is a compressed microsoft html file
.htm is just a html file

There should be more to it.

If you are unsure, download it, then scan the file with your favorite antivirus program.

I know it is a compaq keyboard. You gave the serial, but what is the model?

The rest is basically how a keyboard/mouse front end works: it lets you set up multimedia keys so when clicked, it opens the correct program. More often than not, such front-ends EAT memory. Windows have built-in shortcuts, so why not use it? It's loaded whether you use it or not.

    its KB-0123 (model number)

built in short cuts - do you mean the quick launch bar ?

No, built-in shortcuts are like pressing Windows & R keys to bring up Run prompt, Windows E to open My Computer, etc. You can define keys to open anything as long as you know the file names/commands.
