This is a really good one...

My system is (was) locking up when running at a 400MHz FSB. This happened when reencoding video (SVCD to DVD - PAL to NTSC) or when running graphic intensive stuff (Battlefield 2 and video benchmarks in PCMark05). In order to troubleshoot the issue, I MSCONFIGed it completely down (nothing), reinstalled reference drivers for the video card (nothing) and all kinds of other stuff... The temps for the proc are just fine...

This is where it gets goofy:

I reclocked the FSB to 166 (333 - on a lark) and lo and behold, things work just fine (but SLOOOOOW)... I upped the FSB to 195 (390), and things are still just fine. Seems like underclocking it fixed the problem...

    I was wondering if:

    1. Is this bad (fried) hardware (such a small amount of underclocking resolving the issue seems to not point in this direction - or so I think)

    2. Is there a problem with hardware that hates each other (or known issues with parts) or maybe the system not getting enough juice.

Here's a list of the system guts (other than the video card, nothing is OCed):

    Video: Radeon 9800 pro 128 (reflashed as a 9800XT)
MB: MSI K7N2-ILSR - with newest bios
    Proc: Athlon XP 3200+
    Mem: Kingston HyperX PC 3200 2-3-2-6 (512MB)
HD: Maxtor 133 80GB (running on the onboard Promise 376 Raid)
Lots of Optical media drives (on the onboard IDEs)
    PS: Antec 400W

There's LOTS of fans (5 80mm - one on the proc heatsink) and a 120mm fan blowing on the video card. The video card has also had its cooling replaced with a copper HS and fan.

I have no idea what else may be impacting this, but any questions (and especially answers!) are welcome.

    Thanks!

I figured out the problem myself...

Looks like my processor wasn't getting enough juice (I had it set in the BIOS to default power settings). I bumped up the power to 1.65 (if I remember right - I have no idea what the BIOS default really is) volts and everything seems to be working fine now...

I guess this takes care of this one
