System Mechanic install problem

I've run Iolo system Mechanic Pro for a couple of years, I know not everyone likes these 'fix all' programmes but it works well & the inbuilt firewall and antivirus seem to do a good job.

The version I was running was purchased by my son, when you buy Pro you get 3 licenses but he now needs to use all 3 licenses himself. I bought my own copy from Iolo, uninstalled the old version & installed the new downloaded version.

My problem is that, when I install it picks up the old license information from somewhere & shows that instead of asking for the new activation key. I've contacted Iolo & they told me to delete the Iolo folders from Program Files and from the registry in 'Current User' and 'Local machine'. I've done all that (4 times now) but with the same result. I get the distinct impression that Iolo don't know what else to suggest, can anyone here help?

I don't know if this is part of the problem but I reinstalled XP a while ago after a motherboard failure & installed in a new location so that I could still access some of the old data.

    Windows XP Pro SP2
    Dual core P4 2.5GHz
    2Gb RAM
    200 + 250Gb HDD

I used Revo & it seemed to find many more registry entries and one more windows folder that Iolo had me delete. I then ran CCleaner, HDCleaner and Tracks Eraser before rebooting.
Unfortunately the reinstall still finished up with the old registration information so I am no further forward.

The only thing you can do at this point is to give the information for what you purchased from Iolo to your son. He can install it fresh on the 3rd computer he now needs it for while you continue to use the old information on yours.

Yes, that's an obvious work round but it should not be necessary. I can't believe that Iolo don't know where their license information lives in a normal install.

Be sure to let Iolo know how disgusted you are with the removal procedure.
If cleaners can't pry the info loose from wherever it is hiding, this is one product I won't ever plan on installing.

Hello everybody. I just want you to know that I also have the same problem with Iolo System Mechanic. The System Mechanic on my two machines (one with Vista Home Premium 32-bit and the other with 64-bit) expired recently and I purchased a renewal license from Zonelabs but could not install the license. I contacted Iolo Tech Support, they also gave me instructions to delete some folders, edit the registry file, download the software from their website and when I installed the software (on both machines), the System Mechanic still shows that my license has expired and there is no way to input the new license on the program. I've emailed Iolo Tech Support again and informed them that their instructions does not solve my problem and asked them to give me new instructions to try but I've been waiting for ten days already but I never got any reply from the guy who sent me the instruction. :(

I've at last fixed this one. There were more Iolo folders in 'C:\Documents and Settings\"Username"\Applications Data (this is a hidden folder). I had to delete the folder from each username & administrator.
Once these were deleted the installation went as it should, prompting for the activation code near the start of the process.

I'm curious, how much RAM do you have?
