Recently, I am a message that says 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\CAPICOM\Capicom.dll required for System Mechanic to operate and is missing'. I am curious as to what caused this problem and how to fix it. Anybody have any clues/

    Greetings, Mr.Tribble.

Normally, the message you're receiving can be corrected by re-registering the Capicom.dll file (open a command prompt, change to the directory where the Capicom.dll file is stored, and enter 'regsvr32 capicom.dll' {sans quotes}).

I'm curious, though - you do have System Mechanic installed? If so, then this could have just been a program glitch. If not, however, something else is going on.

I searched the Knowledge Base at the Iolo web site (they make System Mechanic) and found nothing even slightly similar to or related to anything called "capicom.dll". I even searched for "cap" and found nothing. Personally, I think System Mechanic is not all that great, and have never seen it actually fix anything or make a computer run better, and there are free programs that do the same basic thing. However, as a non-System Mechanic user, and a non-fan, all I can suggest is to either contact Iolo support with a support ticket (use this link), download the DLL file from this link (use the link at the bottom of the "Free Download" box; you'll have to scroll down a bit to see it; after downloading, use the info at this link to get the DLL registered and functional with Windows), or simply remove System Mechanic. Yeah - not the best fixes, but I'm not sure there's much else you can do. If you have the capicom.dll file already on the PC (use the Windows search feature to find it, or look in C:\Windows\System32), re-register it by using the steps listed at this link (this same link I already posted above) - OR - uninstall and re-install System Mechanic.... good luck! I hope this helps!
