today i received a gift from a very close friend SYTEM MECHANIC PRO its a legal cd with the genuine code i installed it and let it run after first updating.

i have not had time to fully evaluate it but the response time on the computer is unbelievable it cleaned and tuned it, i will need some time to find it's full potential but so far so good.

i am just curious if any one else has this and what do you think.

all the posts i found are quite old

i don't know how much it costs so am not sure if it's good value???http://bestsmileys.com/cleaning/9.gif

I purchased system mechanic pro version 6 on cd without trialling it, due to not being able to successfully download the trial on dial-up from Iolo

Flattened 2 pc's with it, one running ME the other XP home, ended up reformatting both of them.
Iolo would not even answer a single email from me regarding support.

I had previously used the shareware version 4, which was a great little program, never had a single problem with it.

Maybe I was just unlucky (or pushed the wrong button rolleyes ), version 7 should be a totally different story anyway
I hope it works for you, the program certainly had a lot of potential.

Tried version 6, didn't appreciate it, caused too many problems that I then had to resolve. It sits in the drawer with Nortons Save and Restore.

As shanemail implied in the earlier post, I also really liked the earlier versions of System Mechanic (in my case my personal favorite was v3.7). However, I have found the newer versions are actually overpriced, quite buggy and/or are simply overkill, at least in my opinion and are most definitely not worth the overpriced annual fees.

I used to wholeheartedly recommend this System Mechanic Pro program a few years ago, but I no longer advise it – even if it’s given to you free of charge – this is a very, very dangerous program to use IMO. Check out Amazon.com or C-net and see for yourself - the reviews are downright atrocious!

Over half of the reviewers reported that - not only did the program not work - but it eventually totally trashed their hard drives as well. Additionally, many users on the web report a complete and unrecoverable system-wide failure and crash when attempting to uninstall the program.

Not only that, but I also believe the biggest problem regarding the "new and improved" System Mechanic Pro versions is the appalling and notorious lack of support for this very expensive product - it retails for almost 70 bucks with 40-dollar sort of ‘semi-forced’ (annoying pop-ups, etc.) upgrades each time a new version is released.

Ever since the company iolo technologies, LLC. which sells System Mechanic, turned this software into an "annual subscription renewal" program; I have yet to meet anyone online or otherwise who was able to get any help or any useful support whatsoever from that company.

When I tested the latest version, it would hang. I mean the program would simply hang with no progress whatsoever or eventually shut down. I asked iolo via e-mail support about the program hanging, and never got any response.

Several other emails to customer support regarding other problems that I experienced were answered by quite obviously automated - and thus entirely useless - responses. When they did respond it was with links to their FAQ/Knowledge base that had absolutely nothing to do with the problems that I was having and asked them about.

Other minor annoyances/problems I have encountered in the newer versions:

System Mechanic users have to register it to "activate" the program and it only gives you 3 registration attempts. Now after the 3 failed attempts it completely made the program useless, the activation code wouldn't work anymore.

You have to have an Internet connection running constantly so that the program can double-check to see that the license is valid. No Internet connection – no use of the product!

    Good Luck!

    thanks for the heads up.

i am a little bit P****D off at my friend.

i loaded the program and ran it first in quick mode it found loads of clutter and 4 Reg problems plus 13MB unused files so i let it clean up, i then ran a check to see if i had any problems but everything seemed OK i then ran it in DEEP scan mode it took 1 hour 20minand found a load more stuff so i looked at all the reports and saw nothing untoward so i let it clean(big mistake)
it has deleted the application folders from 3 programs (that i have so far found) Photoshop 7,Flash get and Spybot S+D.

the next step is to uninstall it and throw it.

i am lucky that my external hard drive was not switched on so i have all my programs back.

i do not think i would recommend it to anyone as it seems to do more damage than good.

as reported in your posts it's an expensive program that is just oblivious to what it damages i think it's set to delete anything that it does not recognise as 100% normal I.E modified.

I'm leary of any progs that play with the registry. My experience is they throw out the baby with the bathwater.

CCleaner, which I've been using for a few years, safely, always offers to save the backup of the registry items I want to fix. Of course I say yes. So far, I have never had to use one of the reg files to revert to before I ran CCleaner.
I save about 2 or 3 backups and then after a few weeks, I delete the one or two extras in my backup folder.
