    Hi everyone,

My system's been working fine since I built it 9 months ago with completely new components, having finished work yesterday I turned the system on this morning and it won't even get to the BIOS/ POST screen.

There is definitely power running through the system as the fans all kick in and the dvd drive light powers.

I presumed the motherboard had been fried (it was originally a Gigabyte 915G) so I went and purchased a new ABIT AG8 Board and swapped everything over. This managed to get it as far as the BIOS and got to "Verifying DMI data...." and then the system turned itself off.

Now it won't even go that far and it's back to the same original problem. It won't even get to the BIOS or display the video card info. The fans whirr away and then the system turns itself off after about 15 seconds.

I'm wondering now whether the processor is shot, but then why would it have worked for the brief period of time after I changed the motherboard over? A processor and power supply are the only components I don't have in spare which I can take from another PC unfortunately.

I've tried running the system at bare minimum (i.e. motherboard, processor, RAM and Video Card) but no joy.

It would be really helpful if someone could shed some light on this as I'm a professional graphic/ web designer and without my computer I'm seriously shafted and also losing income.

    System specs:

    ABIT AG8 Mboard (775 PCi-Express)
    2Gig DDR RAM
    256Mb Radeon X800 PCi Express
    Western Digital 200Gig SATA HDD

    Thanks

My first guess would be the video card has died. But try removing all the RAM and then see if it POSTs. If it does then I'd definitely start suspecting the video card. :(

I removed the DDR RAM and it still didn't get to the POST/ BIOS.

It still didn't display anything even when using the onbaord VGA of the original Gigabyte motherboard that was in there before I swapped the motherboards over. I had thought it might be the video card, but alas it seems not :(

Do you know what BIOS you have? ie Award, Ami, Phoenix?

Yes it's an Award BIOS, although don't ask me for the registration/ version number as I can't get it ;)

I've ordered a new processor as I have a feeling that's what's burnt out, as three separate motherboards from different companies/ stores wouldn't be malfunctioning. So it's got to be either the power supply or the processor as those are the only other two constants in the setup.

Well it's not a processor problem either.

The new processor arrived this morning, put that onto a brand new motherboard and hooked up the onboard VGA, and still nothing. Processor fan whirrs away, but no power led, no beeps no sweet F.A.

The only other item that hasn't been altered is the power supply, could it be possible that the main 24pin power connector from the power supply is actually dead, where as the other leads from the supply are ok? As I guess, that would stop the motherboard from actually firing up.

Guess I'll have to find another power supply unless anyone has any other suggestions, as this is starting to get ridiculous. :(

Ok, a new power supply doesn't work either. Completely dead still. Fans whirr but nothing. New motherboard, new processor, new power supply I can't understand what the hell is going on with this now :(

Well as you've gone virtually the whole way already how about a new video card?
