I am trying to restore my harddrive after my old one failed. I got a friends old hard drive (its not really that old, he just got a new comp) after it was wiped and put in the system recovery cds that I had ordered straight from HP. However, this message that Error, such and such a file could not be copied from the cd kept coming up on the first cd. I called HP technical support and they told me to hit ignore. Now... doesn't that cause some files to not be put on the computer?? Isn't that rather serious? I'm very confused, any help would be well appreciated.

It really depends on the file that you chose to ignore. Yes, that particular file will not be copied, but I would expect HP to know whether or not it is essential for their system. If it causes problems, then you should rake them over the coals.

The thing with tech support is luck. Sometimes I get people who dont know a GPU from a CPU and other times I get someone who actually knows what they're talking about. The "award winning support" from HP has had me do non/destructive recoveries, turn off all my startup programs (including virus protection, good thing I later got a guy who told me which ones I should have) now I gotta lose my monster rig for 9 days while they hopefully fix it.
