Hey people, under event viewer, this is what it says everytime my daughters 'puter restarts itself ( about once an hour).
    System restarted after bugcheck. Event 1001. 0x000000d1 (0xf927d228, 0x00000002, 0x000000000, 0xf923a8ce).
    Anyone know what this references?

Have turned off system restart after an error, so as I was trying to recover the memory dump files, BSOD .... Driver_IRQL_not less that .....stop 0x0000000di .....WUSB20xp.sy - f917dc9b base at .......this mean its a problem with the usb devices? Her wireless is Linksey USB / her printer is USB / her Kodak digital docking station and direct download ports are usb.

We've now gone from bad to worse .... after the BSOD, tried to restart and three times it would get to the point of switching to the windows welcome screen and then it would restart, so then tried to restart for a repair installation of xp and only got to the "wait while we check your system configuration" .... then nothing but black screen. Am able to get into safe mode, removed all temp files, there is no virus that AVG can find, started ms antispyware and it froze....arrgg!!!!

Keeps getting better .... started a disk defrag in safe mode and BSOD ....fault in Fastfat.sys ..... restart with chkdsk /f.

Run a chkdsk /r from the Recovery console.

Go back into a restart with safe mode options and recovery console? Haven't done that before. Also, while its running the chkdsk /f, something keeps clicking every few minutes.....rats ..... chkdsk /f just stopped at 97 percent.

  9. Does the clicking happen all the time or just doing that one scan. I would reccomend the chkdsk /r then do a sfc /scannow to hunt down any errors as i think you have some corruptions in you system folders.

sfc has nothing to do with chkdsk. If chkdsk won't finish, I'd be concerned for the health of your hard drive. Especially with clicking.

Chkdsk stopped at 97% , restarted puter and it ran (but I had to leave for work so not sure how far it got to) .... had run sfc /scannow yesterday and reported no errors. The click sound did not stop it from running nor did it seem to be related to the errors .... main one being that system restarted during a "bugcheck". Everything has gone downhill from there.

  12. Oh cause if the drive turns out ok i would think that windows files are corrupted and that would hunt through and fix those corrupt files in the windows folder. I have just realized, if the drive is a seagate i have noticed that they do click every once in a while which is normal as i recently bought a 120 GB seagate harddrive and this is probably one year that i have owned it at the most. I do notice that they will click from time to time when there is heavy activity. It may be norm but i am still agreeing with adrenalyne and i thought sfc might be useful and i was aware that the clicking is not a good thing and was concerned about the drive as well. However, my question remains unanswered. Does the drive still click randomly outside of scandisk.

To answer the question .... it hasn't been clicking for a while (the clicking sound is the same as when you do a restart ....not the normal sound of the drive running) .... but as of now, it won't even boot into safe mode .... goes thru the system and stops although the hard drive is running and the light is flickering .... this is a problem as all her prom picts are on this puter. Thinking two things: try a repair installation (though in the past that has only allowed me to do a complete installation) or pull the hd and put it into another as slave, save files and then reinstall. ok, just did a restart normal and its up ..... will try to save files to cd and see when it crashes. Any other suggestions now that its up?

  14. Ok is the hd a seagate? If it is i think the clicking is normal as mine does the same thing but runs perfectly fine and has done it scince i got the drive. I would reccomend backing up everything valuble on the system right now because we have no idea what is coming of this problem. If the system runs fine and does not crash then the chkdsk might have fixed it. If this is the case run another chkdsk to be sure we fixed the problem. If it crashed again i wonder if it is a cooling problem. Try maybe vacumning the vents for the fans out and see if that helps.

System won't stay up long enough to run much of anything .... ran jv16 (v1.4 - no registry repairs ), ran spybot (nothing), .. cleared the page file to nothing, started defrag and it crashed ..... will try to get it up enough to do a restore (go back a month or more) ..... let ya'll know.

It's not a heat problem ..... case is off and an external fan is running over the mobo .... still can't get it into safe mode (freezes), won't go to last good config. .... have swapped out ram without any effect. Going to pull the hdd and slave it to another puter and save the pic's then reformat and reinstall.

As for the clicking make sure the hard drive is plugged in properly. I had one sometime ago where there were 4 connections on the plug & 1 was lose. Went through 2 drives before it got picked up.

Slaved the drive and saved the pictures ..... returned it to duaghters 'puter and set bios to boot from cd .... goes to wait while windows checks sys. config ... black screen and nothing happens ....cd light is on and spinning ....nothing else happens. When it was in my computer, under disk management, it showed as healthy. ?????? MOBO dying?
