System Restore and CHDSK are sad and playing up.

I'm running XP Pro sp2 and have plenty of space on two partitions.

I can't restore a point with system restore, as when I create a point, the system volume information files are always empty and access is denied, so subsequently, I guess that's why it doesn't restore.

When I double click on the SVI folder I get "System Volume Information Folder is Inaccessible”: and “Access is Denied" and when I hover the pointer over this folder I get “Folder is Empty”.

I've started, restarted system restore and reinstalled it, using the XP Pro sp2 CD and tried all the info I could google, but to no avail.


Also my other problem is that a CHKDSK scan on either drive takes about two hours. The scan slows right down on stage 4 of 5.


Please help.

Hi again, please disregard the system restore problem, as it's up and running now.

The CHKDSK slowdown on "verifying file indexes(stage 4 of 5)" is still current though.
