System Restore not working

For some reason my computer has set itself to a older setting. I have no idea why this happened. I've tried to use System Restore but I get the following message:

System Restore cannot run until you restart your computer. Please restart the computer and then run System Restore again.

Obviously, I've restarted the computer but the same message keeps coming up.
HELP!!!!

PS: if this is in the wrong forum or has already been done, I apologise. If so, can someone redirect me please? Thanks in advance.

 

This is the only way I know of to get system restore working again in XP.

Right click My Computer\Properties\System Restore.
Turn it off. This removes ALL restore points.
Reboot.
Turn System Restore back on. This creates a new restore point.

From there you start again & it will work OK.

Did you try booting & selecting 'last know good configuration?

How to start your computer by using the Last Known Good Configuration feature
To start your computer by using the Last Known Good Configuration feature, follow these steps:
1. Start your computer.
2. When you see the "Please select the operating system to start" message, press the F8 key.
3. When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, use the ARROW keys to select Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked), and then press ENTER.
4. If you are running other operating systems on your computer, use the ARROW keys to select Microsoft Windows XP, and then press ENTER.

If it has reverted back & stopped working it doesn't look good.

 

Sorry, I forgot to mention I use Windows ME. Sorry.
