system restore problem

AFter many problems today, now system restore is screwed up. The only point I can go to is today. It won't even go back to December or any other day. Is there any fix for that?

 

It sounds like your system restore points are lost. Have you turned system restore off/on recently? Regardless, when you look at the system restore calendar, what you see is what you get.

 

System restore has it's limitations, good system backups are preferred. I have System Restore set to 4% on the c drive of this pc, or about 1020 MB, not the default 12%, or about 2935 MB. Didn't have it turned on at all for quite some time, but like using an anti virus, old practices die hard...you can create restore points too, did that once or twice...

If the restore points are there but they just fail to restore (Sytem Restore can not restore you computer to "what ever date") then reboot the PC hitting the F8 button at each screen change until you get to the safemode screen. Load into safemode and just before it opens it will ask if your sure you want to go into safemode or would you rather use system restore (selecting NO gets you into system restore), try to restore your PC from there.
There have been many times with XP that system restore fails for me from within windows but still works from safemode. It got worse with SP2 and really bad with SP3, the original windows with no SP's or only SP1 had no problems like this.
