I have been receiving help from the Malware Removal section of these forums, but they are about out of ideas on how to restore the System Restore tab. All the details of what has transpired are posted on the Malware Removal section, under the same heading but basically, I don't have access to the System Restore Tab. The computer runs Windows Home XP. I did have problems with virus and other malware but the computer seems to be clean now. Still I don't have the System Restore tab. The person I was working with in the Malware section recommended that I come over to the software section. Thanks for any help you can give. Chuck J.

Few ideas, it really depends on your error message......

    1. System Restore for Windows XP
    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_restore.htm

    Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Cu rrentVersion\
    SystemRestore.
If a "DisableSR" value doesn't exist, go to the Edit menu, select New, DWORD value, and create the value.
Set the value to 1 to disable System Restore or 0 to enable System Restore.
The “DisableSR” value is set to 0

I tried all that you suggested and none worked for me. I checked back with Malware Removal to see if they had left a departing post. They had and told me that I may want to run sr.inf in C:\Windows\INF. I did and the System Restore tab is back and everything seems to be working normally. Thanks so much for your help. Chuck J.

Did you try to right click the sr.inf file and select install?

There are lots of suggestions over in the Malware Removal section of the forum under the same heading. Have you tried any of them. I would try the patch that he provided. That worked once for me, but the next time I restarted the computer, the Restore System Tab was gone. And finally, running the sr.inf file was the fix. Chuck J.
