system restore

I have a windows 7 hp laptop and i was having some errors with internet explorer and some programs not working so i did a system restore. It has been doing the restore for 9 hours. Should I be worried and if so how do you stop a restore and what will be the reprocussions .

That's a tough one. I'd normally never recommend halting a restore process, but 9 hours does seem overly long.

What indications do you have showing on the machine? Do you have any hard drive activity lights, is the desktop showing any activity, can you feel/hear the hard drive spinning?

 

I can hear the fan running. The screen says the restore is initializing and there is the circle spinning. No hardrive noise at all. And I started this restore at 11 P.M. lastnight almost 10 hours. Thanks for your imput and will be waiting for further thoughts.

 

It does seem as if the system is 'hung'.

If you've done your homework and have important data backed up, I suggest powering down the machine, then booting into Safe Mode. No telling what you might run into, but the computer is certainly not doing you any good just sitting there.

 

I restarted in safe mode and it said the restore was running in but not finished. No changes to files. So i restarted and all is well. A computer hiccup i guess. Thanks for the help.:-D
