I upgraded Win 7 to 10 some time ago without problems except system restore never worked. I tried it again this am as I need it and it sat there for over an hour saying "restoring registry". I finally shut it down. Is there a way to get it working?

How are you initiating system restore? One way is to launch it while in Windows, but in UEFI systems a far better way is to use the Advance Startup menu available after Shift+Restart.

Older systems boot through BIOS, but later systems (6 or so years) Boot through a system called UEFI. Type System Information in Start and look for BIOS Mode. It will be BIOS or UEFI. If it's UEFI then restart using Shift + Restart and look in the Advanced Startup menu for System Restore. You may need to look in the submenus.
