I've never had any luck using System Restore. Whenever I have a problem that I can't correct, I figure I'll just restore my computer to a previous point, but I always get an error message telling me that it couldn't restore my computer.

I just formatted and reinstalled Windows XP a couple of days ago. I installed my drivers, etc., but I ran into a problem and figured I'd just restore my computer to a couple of days ago before I installed a certain file. No luck. And there's really not a heck of a lot of files on my system right now.

I haven't changed any settings on System Restore, and there are a bunch of restore points to choose from. I just have never had any confidence in this program. Any suggestions on what might be causing this or is System Restore a hit-or-miss thing?

System Restore is better than nothing, but like most bundled applications, it's fairly basic.

GoBack is excellent, and it loads before and independently of Windows so it's not affected as much by Windows crashes and viruses etc.

It also allows you to recover individual files.

    Well worth the money.

only thing bad about Goback is the overhead. every disk write is slowed down.
and it does consume 10% of every hardrive up to 4gb.
but overall, you can't beat it's safety.
