Yeah I'm pretty sure this question has been done to death... But alas, nothing has worked for me... I see all these "disable your system restore" "go to run type REGEDIT go here go there" ... Yeah, OK... That might work for someone who actually has system restore somewhere on there comp... Mine seems to have VANISHED OFF THE FACE OF MY HARD DRIVE! ... It isn't anywhere. Not in System Tools, not in Control Panel... Genuinly not anywhere. I'm not the biggest of computer knowledgable guys, so I'm beyond stuckwhat to do... Adding the original files to my registory hasn't worked either, nothing is there...

Anyone got any suggestions or solutions?

    Thanks in advance :) Mikal

p.s I apologise if this is in the wrong forum area ;)

Right-click my computer and select properties. Click the System Restore Tab. Uncheck the box next to "turn off system restore" and apply. Should work.

Appreciate the quick reply, do you mean the box which turns off the system restore? Cause that is already unchecked, but there is nothing else next to "turn off system restore"... I've read things like that on other sites and on this site... But i don't have anything like that... All I have is "Turn Off System Resotre" and the Disk Space Usage... Nothing more, nothing less... So I'm well stuck... Hopefully that made some sense

    %SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

See if you have this file.

    You Are A God.

Many many thanks :D you have made my day

Can I make a copy of that file and paste it somewhere else so I can get to it quicker? Or should i just leave it as it is?

I would recommend making shortcuts to it rather than actually moving the file itself; I can't say what other files may use that particular path. Right-clicking it, and send to --> desktop will do the trick. From there, you can drag and drop it into the system tools folder, if the previous shortcut hasn't already been replaced.

    Yep thanks :)

It opens fine and I can choose my restore point and what not, but when I try to confirm it by clicking 'Next'... It's not actually doing anything... I've closed it down and tried opening it again and nothing seems to be happening... It's like it's a dead button or something, don't suppose you know why this is?

No, but mucking about in the registry would be my guess.

I would recommend that you visit this thread and follow all the steps within, followed by a visit to this thread, and again following all the steps. This is good stuff and shouldn't be taken lightly. If there's still a problem after that, I would try a repair install of windows.

One other note: Typically if you do not have hidden/system folder "c:\system volume information", then probably your restore points are gone. Note: I did say Hidden and System related folder.

IF you do a system restore (repair installation), ALL your previous system restore points will be wiped. And a fresh one will be created.
