System restre only goes to beginning of year?

It won't let me restore it before Jan 31 2014. I wnated to go back a couple years. i press on the month 'back" button & ti won't go back farther than that. is that normal?

That's quite normal. The number of restore points is determined by how much of your disk space has been allocated for them and having two years worth would be impractical. Too late now but you should look into imaging, for which there are several free and very capable programs available. Imaging can restore your entire system to the state it was in when the image was created. System Restore cannot do that, it does a partial restore only.
