My system is running pretty slow, where the fan is constantly on. I have a hijackthis log file, with a number of processes running in the background that have been disabled in the startup. Can someone take the time out to please assess my situation. Thank-you

    Hi Ariana

AFAIK, the average desktop computer will have at least two fans running all the time when the machine is On:
A CPU fan and a case fan.
If they are running noticeably faster than usual and stay that way, that could indicate a problem. Otherwise it's probably OK.

Can't help with the hijackthis log, but here is a very good place to start - a guide by Major Attitude:

Check your temperatures with SpeedFan. If the temperatures are too high, then you may have accumulated dust in the PC, and the fan cannot really do its job.

Is it a laptop or desktop? What make?

Thanks for the replies! I have a Sony Vaio EB series.

I read the guide by Major Attitude, and already do these steps on the regular. I just installed SpeedFan, and am noob enough not to know how high is too high. So here are my readings:

Although I'm not very familiar with this program, the First thing I noticed is that Fan2 shows 0 rpm.
If there is a case fan and it is not running, then the computer is too warm inside.

Don't know what is normal for a laptop, but comparing your numbers to the reading for my machine, those do look a bit high.

Fan2 indicating 0RPM could mean that the laptop only has one fan.

The temperatures do look a bit high, although not alarmingly so. If I had that machine I would look for a service manual online, so I could see if there is indeed only one fan. It would also show me how to open the machine, so I could check for any accumulated dust, especially in the area of the fan / cpu / heatsink.
